There are some sessions that stay with you, and this was one of them!

This winter styled bridal session was planned with so much heart, and getting to finally see it come to life felt incredibly special. From the beginning, I wanted this shoot to feel warm, romantic, and grounded in the natural beauty of the season, while also highlighting the thoughtful work of some truly talented local vendors.

What made the day even more meaningful was the couple who volunteered to model for us. They brought such a genuine warmth to the session — easy laughter, quiet tenderness, and the kind of connection that photographs so beautifully because it’s simply real. At the time, they were looking ahead to their life together, and he had recently given her a promise ring, which added such a sweet layer of meaning to the day.

The Vision

Winter weddings carry a kind of quiet magic.

There’s something about the softness of the season, the rich textures, and the warmth woven into every detail that creates such a beautiful atmosphere. For this session, the inspiration centered around earthy oranges, deep reds, creamy neutrals, eucalyptus green, and candlelit textures that felt warm against the winter setting.

I wanted the overall feeling to be romantic and inviting, while still staying natural and true to the season.

The Day It All Came Together

Truthfully, it had been a snowless winter, and for a winter wedding styled session, that felt a little disappointing after all the planning that had gone into it.

Then, on the day of the session, it snowed.

It honestly could not have been more perfect!

The snowfall transformed the already gorgeous Tin Roof Barn into the most beautiful setting and gave us exactly the winter atmosphere we had hoped for. Watching the snow come down while photographing the couple felt genuinely magical, and it added such softness and depth to the entire gallery. Who knew so much warmth could be photographed in the middle of winter? We're so thankful to Kelly, the owner of Tin Roof Barn, for inviting us to photograph at their beautiful venue!

The setting gave us everything we needed — open space, beautiful texture, and that quiet winter feeling that made the images feel especially romantic.

Working with Local Vendors

One of my favorite parts of this session was getting to collaborate with such a wonderful group of local creatives.

The wardrobe from The Dalles Wedding Place was such a beautiful fit for the vision. The bride’s gown was simple and elegant, with delicate lace detailing along the back and sleeves that added softness without feeling overly formal. The groom’s tan suit paired with a textured tweed vest brought warmth and richness that complemented the earthy color palette so well.

The florals by Justine Strebe brought everything together beautifully. The bouquet and arrangements included eucalyptus, rich seasonal tones, and unique touches like dried pomegranates, which gave the design so much texture and warmth.

Hair styling by Abbie Denley of Abbie’s Nomadic Cutz was soft, effortless, and touchable — a loosely swept braid that felt relaxed and romantic. The floral crown, thoughtfully designed to match the rest of the florals, was the perfect finishing detail.

We also included beautiful styling elements from Magpie’s Nest, from the table details to the flat lay pieces, which added so much character and warmth to the overall design.

I’m so grateful for each person who helped make this session what it was.

Why Styled Sessions Matter

One of the things I love most about styled sessions is how they help couples see what’s possible.

They create space to dream a little — to imagine how a season, a color palette, or a feeling can come to life on a wedding day. Winter weddings, in particular, have such a distinct atmosphere that feels intimate, romantic, and deeply memorable.

This session was such a beautiful reminder of that.

If you’re planning a winter wedding, there is something so special about leaning into the season and letting it shape the feeling of the day.
