Meet Charlotte Dawn Photography

Formerly Sweet Potato Photography

Rebranding a business is a big step, and I wanted to share a little bit of the “why” behind my transition from Sweet Potato Photography to Charlotte Dawn Photography. Instead of a long formal announcement, I thought it would be fun to do this interview-style — like you’re just sitting down and asking me about it, enjoying a cup of coffee together.

When did the change officially happen?

January 1, 2026.
It felt like the right way to start a new year and a new chapter.

Where did Sweet Potato Photography come from?

It actually came from my husband’s nickname for me. I’m from Idaho, so he lovingly teased me about my “potato life” before we met, haha. Then when our son was born with red hair, he became our little sweet potato.
During the pandemic, I started a handmade wooden toy business called Sweet Potato Village, and photography grew out of that. As I learned how important strong visuals were for branding, I completely fell in love with photography! When I launched my photography business, using the Sweet Potato name felt natural!

Why change the name now?

Sweet Potato Photography fit really well when I was focused mostly on newborns and families. But as I’ve grown, I’ve expanded into weddings and working with artisan brands.
I wanted a name that could grow with me — something that felt more like me as an artist and as a person. I was ready to move away from a cookie-cutter business style and build something that felt fully personal and creative.

Why Charlotte Dawn Photography?

Simply, because it’s me, and it’s not something I’ll outgrow!
Charlotte is my name, and Dawn is my middle name. Using Dawn instead of my last name just felt right — it feels warm, fresh, and hopeful. A lot of my clients are celebrating new chapters in life, and “dawn” feels like the perfect way to represent that.

How does this new brand reflect you more?

For a long time, I kept things very simple and neutral. Clean, safe, very standard photography branding.
But that isn’t really me.
I love crafts. I love whimsical details. Mushrooms, wildflowers, pine trees, river water, wind moving through grass fields. I love chartreuse and peachy coral pink. I love warmth and golden light.
Living in the Columbia River Gorge and the Pacific Northwest is something I treasure, and what a beautiful thing- that I get to incorporate and showcase this beautiful area into the images I create with local families and couples. I’m so excited to be bringing more of that into my work and my brand!

Did your ideal client change?

No, but I DO hope this makes it easier for the right clients to find me and immediately feel connected to my work and my style.

Was rebranding scary?

A little, yes!
Changing your business name is scary because it’s how people know you. And there are a lot of logistics — especially when you build your own website, marketing, and graphics. (The fact that I’m finishing this in February when I planned January is proof of that haha)
But I’m also putting some things in place behind the scenes so if someone searches for Sweet Potato Photography, they can still find me.

What hasn’t changed?

Me!
Sessions are still fun, relaxed, and low stress.
Policies and payment structure are largely the same.
And I’m still just as invested in documenting your life and milestones.

What do you want past Sweet Potato Photography clients to know?

I still exist — just under a new name.
And I would still love to be your photographer for years to come! It's one of favorite things, getting to see my clients and families grow, change, and adapt. I count it as an absolute privilege to be the one who gets to document these milestones!

What are you most excited about moving forward?

Meeting families, couples, and brands who connect with this vision and want imagery that feels warm, organic, and a little whimsical. I am also excited to explore new areas, & I plan and incorporate more fun and activity-centered sessions to truly make memories for my clients!

If you had to describe Charlotte Dawn Photography in a few words?

Warm, Organic, Grounded, Whimsical, Lush, & Cherished

If you've know me since Sweet Potato Photography, thank you for being part of the reason my business has continued to grow!

And if you're new here, I am so thrilled you found me! Please reach out, say hello, and I would love the chance to get to work together!
