If you’re looking for a wedding venue in The Dalles with beautiful river views, flexible indoor and outdoor spaces, and an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and romantic, Bargeway Pub & Catering might be your perfect venue!

From the warm late-summer light to the soft wildflower details and the Columbia River just steps away, the entire celebration felt welcoming, joyful, and deeply personal.

For couples planning a wedding in the Columbia Gorge, I hope this gives you a helpful look at what a wedding day at Bargeway can feel like.

What makes this venue such a beautiful option:

Bargeway Pub & Catering sits directly on the Columbia River in The Dalles, Oregon — and I truly mean directly on the river.

The waterfront view is one of the most special parts of this venue. The open outdoor space gives couples a beautiful ceremony backdrop, especially in late summer and early fall when the light begins to soften in the evening.

The venue offers both indoor and outdoor event spaces, which makes it incredibly versatile for wedding days. Emily and Nolyn held their ceremony and outdoor dancing reception space outside, while dinner was hosted indoors, creating a smooth flow for guests throughout the evening.

For weddings around 100 guests, it feels spacious, open, and easy to move through.

One thing I especially loved was the gazebo area, the nearby greenery, and the openness of the grounds. There are so many naturally beautiful spots built right into the venue.

Best Photo Locations Around Bargeway Pub

One of the reasons I would absolutely recommend this venue for couples is how many portrait opportunities are nearby.

Of course, the Columbia River itself is the star.

The sunset over the water was absolutely beautiful, and the light reflecting off the river gave such a soft, romantic glow for portraits.

Just beyond the venue, there is a walking bridge over a creek that feeds into the Columbia-  perfect for intimate couple portraits.

A short walk down the river path also brings you to the small and quaint The Dalles Community Garden, which offers beautiful seasonal blooms and greenery.

For Emily and Nolyn’s private portraits, we also used The Port of The Dalles / Klindt House area, where the historic stonework created a timeless and elegant backdrop. Highly recommend this spot for your couples portraits!

Helpful Tips for Couples Planning a Wedding at Bargeway

If you’re considering Bargeway for your wedding, here are a few practical things to keep in mind:

Think carefully about ceremony timing

Because the ceremony space is outdoors and open to the river, sun direction matters. Afternoon ceremonies may create some squinting depending on where guests and the couple are positioned.

A quick check with the venue coordinator about the sun’s direction during your planned ceremony time will help you choose the most comfortable backdrop.

Guest experience is easy

Although Bargeway is also a restaurant, the event space feels largely private and separate from the dining area, which I think couples will really appreciate.

It never felt intrusive or busy in a way that took away from the wedding day.

There is also plenty of overflow parking for guests, which makes logistics much easier.

The food is a huge bonus

One of the wonderful things about hosting a wedding here is the catering.

Bargeway’s in-house catering is genuinely delicious, and as someone local to The Dalles, it’s one of my personal favorite restaurants in town. That’s a great added benefit for couples who want great food without juggling outside catering logistics.

For couples dreaming of a Columbia Gorge wedding with river views, indoor-outdoor flexibility, and beautiful sunset light, I truly think Bargeway is a perfect option!

It feels relaxed, scenic, and welcoming while still giving you beautiful, timeless backdrops for your all the important moments of your wedding day.

If you’re planning a wedding in The Dalles or anywhere in the Gorge, I’d love to help document it in a way that feels genuine, warm, and true to your story.
